Mr. Alex Pritchard
Director of Debate, Westwood High School, TX

Alex is Director of Forensics at Westwood High School in Austin, Texas. Alex's record speaks for itself. He is among the two or three most successful high school coaches in the past fifteen years. His teams have won two NFL National Championships and one national runner up. His teams have placed first at every major invitational in the United States, including the Heart of Texas Invitational at the St. Mark's School of Texas, the National Invitational at Harvard University, the Barkley Forum for High Schools at Emory University, and the Southern Bell Forum at Montgomery Bell Academy. Alex coached the winners of the 2000 edition of the prestigious Tournament of Champions (TOC) at the University of Kentucky, as well as the 2000 Glenbrooks Debate Tournament. He also has three runner-up finishes at the TOC. His teams have won the prestigious Texas Forensic Association State tournament six times. Alex has worked at the Zarefsky scholars for juniors and sophomores, the Coon Hardy institute, the NHSI institute, and the Iowa institute just to name a few. Alex has been inducted into the Tournament of Champions Hall of Fame and holds the honor of being a Key Coach at the Barkley Forum. Alex returns to The Championship Debate Group for his eighth summer.
 
Ms. Janet Melton
Lampasas, TX

Janet Melton is a 30-year teacher/speech & debate coach. Her students are found each year at the UIL State Meet in both policy debate and spring speech events. She is a recipient of the UIL Sponsor Excellence Award and was a finalist for the TSCA Secondary Educator of the Year Award. Janet is the Chair of the UIL Advisory Committee for TSCA. Janet presents each year for UIL Super Conferences across the state. She has been on staff at other summer institutes. Her students have found success attending The Championship Debate Group and now Janet is excited to join our staff.
 
Mr. Dave Huston
Director of Forensics, Heritage High School, TX

Dave Huston will be assisting with the teachers' institute. In addition to successfully coaching teams to late elimination rounds at many of the national and regional tournaments, Dave is well known for his successes in team management as well. He has successfully made the transition from the traditional paper methods of argumentation to a well organized system of electronic document construction, filing, and retrieval systems for debate evidence. Dave has also become an authority on tournament management and tabulation. His experience includes running and tabulating the Lincoln Douglas divisions of the Greenhill, Glenbrooks, and University of California at Berkeley tournaments as well as the Policy Debate division at the NFL National Speech and Debate tournament. Dave has also served as an NFL district chair for a total of ten years in three different NFL districts. His wealth of experience in all of the areas will be an asset to explaining program and tournament management to our teachers.
